During October there were several burglaries in the village which have occurred whilst the occupants have been away or out for the evening. The persons responsible for these crimes are apparently targeting properties which appear to be unoccupied - i.e. in darkness etc.
Please take precautions whenever you leave your home unoccupied - in particular we recommend leaving lights on and/or using time switches if you are out during the evening. If you are going away on holiday there are a number of precautions you can take - a leaflet on the subject is available at the Contact Point (open 2 – 4 pm Tue/Wed/Thu and 10am – 12 noon Saturday) and in the library.
Report any suspicious people (including any casual door knockers, i.e. people calling on some pretext such as tree felling or asking for someone who doesn't live at the property) and/or vehicles to the Police on 0300 300 9999. If you suspect a crime is taking place use the 999 system.
